Duties
- Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and confidence.
- Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, placing temporary restorations, and taking accurate dental x-rays using digital imaging systems like Eaglesoft and Dentrix.
- Manage patient records efficiently within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing dental instruments according to infection prevention management protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Take vital signs, medical history updates, and assess patient comfort to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Operate advanced dental equipment including 3D scanners, medical imaging devices, and dental sterilization tools to support accurate diagnostics and treatment planning.
- Support front-office functions by assisting with patient management software as a dental receptionist when needed, ensuring seamless scheduling and communication.
Qualifications
- Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) with current licensure or certification as required by state law.
- Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and infection control procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; familiarity with medical documentation and coding is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and handling dental instruments efficiently.
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention standards and sterilization procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment.
- Excellent communication skills to educate patients about procedures and post-care instructions while maintaining clinical confidentiality at all times.
