Join our dedicated childcare team as a Van Driver for our Childcare Center, where your role is vital in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of children to and from the center. 2:25pm-4:20 pm
Responsibilities
- Safely operate passenger vans or school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations
- Transport children to and from the childcare center, ensuring timely pickups and drop-offs during split shifts
- Assist children with wheelchair assistance when needed, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures are followed
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify safety features are functioning correctly before each shift
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols
- Maintain clear communication with childcare staff regarding schedules, delays, or traffic changes to ensure smooth operations
- Support behavior management by maintaining a calm, respectful demeanor during transit and addressing minor behavioral issues appropriately
- Ensure passenger safety at all times by enforcing seat belt use, managing student discipline, and supervising children during transit
- Perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading strollers or equipment safely
- Complete accurate logs of trips, incidents, vehicle maintenance checks, and other required documentation
Experience
- Proven experience driving buses or commercial vehicles such as transit buses or school buses
- Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and transportation safety regulations
- Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is highly preferred
- Familiarity with wheelchair assistance procedures and behavior management strategies
- Valid driver’s license appropriate for commercial driving; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
- Certifications in first aid and CPR and Transportation Safety are mandatory to obtain before hire.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies while maintaining safety standards
- Understanding of school policies related to student discipline and transportation procedures
