JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Location: Austin (Capitol Office)
Start: Late Summer / Early Fall 2026
The Office of State Senator Rehmet (District 9) is seeking a full-time Policy Analyst
in Austin, Texas at the Texas State Capitol.
The ideal candidate must possess strong research, analytical, and communication skills (both verbal and written), and a professional, courteous demeanor. They must also have prior Texas Senate experience (within the past 5-10 years) or a reasonably equivalency, having worked a regular legislative session. The candidate must also be competently knowledgeable in two or more of the following priority areas: labor, education, healthcare, and veterans issues. Please note this is an in-office position, M – F, 9 – 5, as are all positions within the Office of Senator Rehmet, with competitive pay and benefits.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Routinely conduct policy research and analyses on legislative issues relevant to the Senate District 9; develop policy briefs, bill drafts, and amendments
· Monitor trends and topics in Senate committees and on the Senate floor, as well as in other political branches, bodies, and subdivisions within Texas
· Prepare concise, decision-ready briefing materials for committee hearings, stakeholder meetings, and floor debates; develop vote recommendations and other strategic guidance in a timely manner; staff the senator as needed for such events
· Engage with constituents, advocacy organizations, legislative staff, and stakeholders to gather input and communicate the Senator's positions
· Assist in preparing constituent correspondence and researching complex casework on legislative issues and on occasion, interact with state agencies and courts
· Perform other duties as assigned to support office priorities and needs
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
· Demonstrated ability to conduct policy research and draft clear, concise materials
· Bachelor's degree (not required but a plus if the major was in public policy, political science, or law)
· Experience in the Texas legislative process, preferably in the Texas State Senate, having worked during a session (preference of the former) within the past 5-10 years
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, including working extended hours during the legislative session
· Keen understanding of Texas ethics law, confidentiality, and public access
· Ability to live and work in Austin full-time starting in the late Summer or early Fall (2026)
SALARY / BENEFITS:
The general range for this position is $5,833/mo – $7,083/mo with comprehensive state benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement, and more).
