Responsibilities
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared efficiently.
- Operate and maintain dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners, adhering to safety protocols and infection prevention management.
- Process dental instruments using sterilization procedures aligned with infection control standards, maintaining aseptic techniques at all times.
- Manage patient records electronically using EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Take vital signs and medical history of patients to support comprehensive care delivery while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Support the dental reception area by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by following infection prevention policies and ensuring all dental tools are sterilized properly.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic or healthcare setting is preferred, especially with pediatric dentistry or general dentistry practices.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to accurately document procedures and diagnoses.
- Hands-on experience with dental x-ray techniques, including dental radiography for both adult and pediatric patients.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing electronic health records efficiently.
- Knowledge of dental assisting best practices including four-handed dentistry, oral surgery assistance, endodontics support, and prosthodontics procedures.
- Understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control protocols including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist or in patient interaction roles while maintaining professionalism at all times.
