Job Summary
This role requires someone who is highly organized with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve. Effectively communicating with drivers to execute on-time pick-up and deliveries per customer requirements and company standards is critical. This individual needs to be able to adjust to last minute changes and work with drivers and management to schedule emergency pick-up or deliveries for new or established customers when necessary.
This position is onsite in Mendota Heights.
Schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am -5pm, with emergency after hours rotation.
Responsibilities
- Develop delivery routes and maintain contact with drivers throughout the day.
- Arrange pick-up and delivery appointments based on customer orders and planning schedule.
- Collaborate with management to modify daily routes to accommodate the needs of customers.
- Dispatch drivers to ensure customer orders are booked.
- Communicate load instructions to drivers via computer and/or phone.
- Track drivers and equipment to ensure timely pickup and delivery to the final destinations.
- Document all communications with customers to coordinate paperwork and freight movement in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and safety regulations.
- Assist and direct truck drivers with repairs and/or breakdown issues.
- Perform basic data entry; and demonstrate the ability to learn new computer programs.
- Pre-checking of drivers and be sure proper loads are assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2+ years in the transportation industry
- Fleet dispatch experience
- Logistical background a plus!
- Knowledge of FMCSA safety regulations & HOS limitations
- Strong knowledge of semi tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize, take initiative and achieve results
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Must have a proactive approach to problem resolution, critical thinking and problem solving
- Ability to prioritize driver needs.
- Pass pre-employment screens (including drug & background)
