The North America Branch, based in Chicago, serves schools, universities, libraries, educational organizations, and publishing partners throughout the United States and Canada. As our international publishing business continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Senior Rights Manager to lead our global publishing rights and licensing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global rights acquisition and licensing strategies for books, educational resources, and digital publishing products.
- Negotiate domestic and international publishing rights, including translation rights, co-edition rights, licensing agreements, distribution rights, and digital content rights.
- Identify and establish partnerships with publishers, literary agencies, authors, universities, educational institutions, and content creators worldwide.
- Manage the acquisition and licensing process from initial negotiation through contract execution and project completion.
- Represent the company at major international book fairs and publishing events, including the Frankfurt Book Fair, London Book Fair, BookExpo, Bologna Children's Book Fair, and Beijing International Book Fair.
- Expand the company's international publishing network and identify new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with editorial, marketing, legal, and sales teams to maximize the commercial value of publishing assets.
- Monitor global publishing trends, copyright regulations, and licensing opportunities to support long-term business growth.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with publishing partners across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Qualifications
Required
- Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Bachelor's degree or above.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in publishing rights, copyright licensing, international publishing, or related industries.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and business development skills.
- In-depth knowledge of international copyright law, publishing contracts, and intellectual property licensing.
- Experience managing complex international licensing agreements.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Publishing, Law, Business, International Relations, or a related field.
- Experience working for a publishing house, literary agency, educational publisher, or media company.
- Established relationships with international publishers, literary agents, universities, or educational organizations.
- Experience attending and conducting business at major international book fairs.
- Familiarity with educational publishing, Chinese-language publishing, bilingual publishing, or children's books.
- Knowledge of digital publishing, e-books, online learning platforms, and emerging publishing technologies is highly desirable.
Compensation
- Starting salary: $150,000+ per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
