Job Description For Full-Time Dog Walker/Driver:
Penny and the Jets is a professional dog walking business that has been serving San Francisco for the past 10+ years.
We are looking to hire a full-time dogwalker who is committed to the role for at least 1 year. *Sorry students, we are not able to hire for summer-only /seasonal roles at this time!
You will be provided with all necessary training and tools needed to complete this job, including access to a company vehicle upon completion of the training period.
Initial Requirements:
- San Francisco Resident
- A valid CA driver's license and clean driving record
- A working smartphone and the ability to download and navigate required apps.
- You must pass a background check.
Job Details:
A full time dog walker makes $21/hour.
This position's schedule varies and requires availability Monday - Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.
Most days you will pick up and drop off dogs along your route, and meet with another dog walker at the park to help support and ensure the dogs are engaging is safe play and socialization.
We also provide occasional individual and small group walks outside of the dog park setting. Occasionally, in lieu of, or in addition to your normal routine, you may be asked to make a run to a pet store/hardware store/mechanic, etc.
Job Responsibilities
Attention to detail is a must. The safety of the dogs and our team is our number one priority.
- Knowledge of Penny and the Jets Services
- Knowledge of animal care and pet safety
- Ability to monitor ALL dogs at ALL times to ensure safety
- Ability to get to work on time daily
- Ability to follow instructions given by owner/management
- General car upkeep and sanitization. Must report any vehicular issues immediately as they arise
- Ability to maintain safe driving practices
- Ability to perform work duties including but not limited to:
- Transporting dogs safely to and from the park as instructed in training.
- Safely and efficiently getting dogs into and out of the park as instructed in training.
- Staying in the park for a minimum of 1 hour per walk.
- Picking up after the dogs (poop, vomit, trash, etc.).
- Being aware of hazards and dangerous situations in the park.
- Keeping the dogs engaged and active safely.
- Preventing fights by monitoring dogs body language and play styles.
- If a fight occurs, you must be able to urgently and safely break it up as instructed in training.
- Keeping track of all the dogs in your group at all times by regularly counting and recalling.
- Taking daily pictures and videos of the dogs to share with clients in the text threads and with management for social media purposes (standards for photos/videos outlined in handbook).
Additional Considerations:
- Must keep all food and toxic substances away from dogs at all times
- Must be able to pleasantly converse with clients, the public, and other dog walkers.
- Must maintain friendly and professional relationships within the company.
- Must be able to accurately explain any temperament changes noticed in the dog, injuries, and progress reports to clients within the text threads.
- It is a privilege we are able to use the enclosed parks and off leash dog trails for our services. Please respect the parks and others using them.
Other important info:
- All company vehicles are equipped with GPS trackers. It is strictly prohibited to use company vehicles for personal use or non work related activities unless approved by company owner.
- Penny and the Jets complies with the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance, and you will accrue 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked.
- Must provide 2 weeks notice for time off requests to ensure we can secure the proper coverage.
- Penny and the Jets will pay employees twice a month via direct deposit.
- The company will pay for all gas, car maintenance and provide you with the tools needed to complete your job (treats, toys, cages, leashes, collars, wet wipes, dog bags, paper towels, cleaner, towels etc.).
- It is your responsibility to keep any car receipts and keep track of mileage in the book provided in the company vehicle.
- We work in ALL weather conditions unless they are unsafe for us or the dogs.
- Sometimes schedules change on the day of. We need to remain flexible.
- Pay for this position is $21/hour.
