Job Summary
As a Pest Control Technician at Bloomington Housing Authority, you will help protect buildings and outdoor spaces from unwanted pests such as roaches, bed bugs, and mice. You will utilize mechanical skills, knowledge of pest management strategies, and safety expertise to identify, treat, and prevent pest infestations. Your proactive approach and customer service skills will ensure residents receive effective solutions while maintaining the highest safety standards. When not performing pest control duties, you will perform various skilled and unskilled property maintenance tasks at the Housing Authority's 600+ units at 9 public housing sites. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop specialized skills in pest control and property maintenance while working in a variety of building types.
Duties and Responsbilities
- Inspects premises to identify infestation source and locations. Identifies pests and determines the best method for elimination and control.
- Applies appropriate materials, chemicals, or treatments to eliminate pests. Sets mechanical traps and places poisonous paste or bait in infested areas (e.g. walls, sewers, burrows, ditches, etc.) in a manner that does not pose a hazard to humans or pets.
- Mixes chemicals according to specifications and uses appropriate equipment for job
- Identifies extent of damage to property, wall and roof porosity, and access to infested locations.
- Operate company vehicles responsibly for transportation between job sites, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of chemical applications, pest activity, and treatment outcomes in compliance with safety protocol adherence.
- Performs general cleaning and maintenance of equipment, lawns, and grounds.
- Provide exceptional customer service by explaining treatment plans clearly, answering questions confidently, and ensuring resident satisfaction throughout the service process.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must be licensed/certified by state for restricted-use pesticides.
- High school diploma or GED and one year relevant experience.
- Knowledge of pertinent chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, chemical processes, interactions, danger signs, and disposal methods.
- Thorough knowledge of appropriate techniques, methods, and use of equipment and tools used in pest control activities.
- Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical activity.
- Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record and be insurable by auto insurance carrier.
- Strong customer service skills with an ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and residents about pest issues and solutions.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The wage for this role is $27.40 an hour and includes extensive benefits such as health insurance, a generous retirement plan, paid time off, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance and uniform package.
