General Description: Responsible for performing clerical tasks within the Burton Senior Center. Duties include answering the phones, greeting participants and visitors when arriving. The ability to use general office equipment and software. Understand programs and services available at the Senior Center and surrounding support agencies and possess the ability to accurately articulate this information to the public. Accurately accepting money, write receipts and posting in appropriate ledger. The receptionist needs to deliver exceptional customer service assistance and provide an overall welcoming environment. The receptionist will oftentimes need to perform additional senior center duties as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Screen calls and take messages.
· Answer questions accurately regarding programming and services.
· Communicate considerately, understanding the challenges of the aging population.
· Process payments and help participants if they have any questions about their payment.
· Respond to participants and visitors in a polite and timely manner.
· Make appointments and reservations for programs and services. Have the ability to properly screen for appointments and give accurate information regarding needed documents for their appointment.
· Effectively answer and direct phone calls to the correct person.
· Maintain and stock the reception area and all common areas within the senior center. Assist with setting up and taking down of tables and chairs for various programs.
· Assist with participant signing in to the senior center.
· Operate standard office equipment on a regular basis, including a fax machine, copy machine, scanner and computer.
· Check the mail daily, sort and distribute appropriately.
· Maintain a general office filing system.
· Perform other administrative duties as required to support the mission and function of the Burton Senior Center.

· Experience working with the elderly.
· Ability to pay close attention to detail and be flexible in a fast paced and growing senior center.
· Ability to be self-directed and work independently showing initiative, while seeking guidance when appropriate.
· Ability to work with a team, both volunteer and paid staff.
· Comfortable multitasking and prioritizing tasks without guidance.
· Organizational skills to keep an accurate record of documentation.
· Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English.
· Proficient technology usage skills.
· Honest and ethical team member.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Computer knowledge such as PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft word, Microsoft Publisher and MySeniorCenter.
· Conflict de-escalation skills.
· Strong attendance history of punctuality.
· High School diploma or General Education Degree required.
· CPR/AED/First Aide Certified or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
· Pass a background check.
· Have a negative TB test.
· The ability to lift 50lbs.
· Salary Range: $15.52 - $22.20 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
