In this role, you’ll work directly with adults with disabilities to help them explore career interests, develop workplace skills, gain real-world experience, and prepare for greater independence in employment and the community.
This is a hands-on position where no two days look exactly the same. You’ll provide a combination of classroom, group, and one-on-one instruction while building meaningful relationships with participants and helping them recognize and reach their potential.
What You’ll Do
- Help participants explore career interests and identify employment goals.
- Provide workplace readiness, job exploration, self-advocacy, and employment skills training.
- Develop individualized goals and plans based on each participant’s strengths, interests, and needs.
- Provide hands-on learning opportunities and work experiences in a variety of community settings.
- Build participants’ confidence, independence, communication, and self-advocacy skills.
- Work collaboratively with families, coworkers, employers, and other members of participants’ support teams.
- Track progress and complete required documentation and records.
- Advocate for participants while respecting their choices, rights, and individual goals.
- Transport participants to community activities and employment-related experiences.
- Serve as a positive role model and create a supportive, encouraging environment.
What We’re Looking For:
- Enjoys helping others learn, grow, and become more independent.
- Is patient, compassionate, non-judgmental, and comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Can adapt their communication and teaching style to meet individual needs.
- Is organized, dependable, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities.
- Can work independently while also being a strong team player.
- Is comfortable making sound decisions in challenging situations.
- Has basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience training people with disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in a variety of workplace or employment settings is preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to meet agency insurance requirements.
- Reliable access to a vehicle and ability to travel independently throughout the workday.
- Ability to complete required training and skills assessments.
Why This Work Matters
You won’t simply be teaching job skills—you’ll be helping people discover what they’re capable of, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward greater independence.
