In the fall of 2022 Mayor Marty Small Sr. launched an initiative to create a performance measurement system in Atlantic City, modeled after a successful practice by municipalities around the country called CitiStat. AC’s program is responsible for improving the quality of services provided to city residents. To accomplish that goal, the system evaluates policies by collecting and examining performance data for various city agencies. Each month, those departments present their data to the Mayor’s top staff. Agencies must be prepared to answer any question raised during the session
Intern Assignment Description: You will get the opportunity to help implement this evolving program. Your main responsibilities will be to:
1) Produce memorandums for the Mayor’s top staff after analyzing monthly data for city departments.
2) Follow-up with city departments on action items developed through the meetings.
3) Refine key performance indicators and data entry procedures with city departments.
4) Co-create a quick-look dashboard with IT staff to track changes in the data.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The right candidate(s) selected for this unique internship will have the advantage of working closely with senior municipal leadership, including department directors, the city business administrator, and the office of the mayor. The experience from this internship would not only allow for the development of skills for future career advancement with the city of Atlantic City, but valuable skills that could be transferred to any local or other governmental agency.
Additionally, interns can expect mentorship opportunities to support their professional growth. Intern interactions with senior municipal leadership from all department including the business manager’s office and mayor’s office, will be both frequent and with direct access.
