Job Summary
Bell Builders is a residential and post-frame construction company serving the Brainerd Lakes area and Crow Wing County. We build and remodel homes, garages, and post-frame buildings.
We're looking for an experienced lead carpenter to run jobs from the field. This is a hands-on role for someone who does high-quality work themselves and can direct an apprentice or laborer on site. You'll be the person we trust to keep a job moving, on plan, and on schedule when the owner isn't standing next to you.
What You'll Do
- Run day-to-day work on residential and post-frame jobs, from layout through finish
- Frame walls, roofs, and post-frame structures to plan
- Install siding and exterior trim to manufacturer spec (LP SmartSide, James Hardie, vinyl, cedar, board-and-batten, and steel)
- Handle interior remodel work: framing, drywall prep, doors, trim, and finish carpentry
- Read residential blueprints and work from material takeoffs
- Direct and mentor an apprentice carpenter or laborer on site
- Keep the job site clean, safe, and organized
- Communicate with the owner on progress, material needs, and problems before they become expensive
- Track your hours and materials accurately and take care of company tools and equipment
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on carpentry experience, including residential framing and exterior finish work
- Proven ability to run a job and lead a small crew without daily supervision
- Real experience with at least a few siding systems (fiber cement, engineered wood, vinyl, steel, or cedar)
- Comfortable reading residential plans and doing basic layout and jobsite math
- Own basic hand and power tools
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites around Crow Wing County
- Physically able to do the work: lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders and scaffolding, and work outdoors in Minnesota conditions
- Dependable, strong work ethic, and takes pride in clean, code-compliant work
Nice to Have
- Post-frame / pole barn experience
- Ability to pull and back a trailer
- OSHA 10 card
- Experience on high-end custom or lake home projects
- Familiarity with reading a siding takeoff or estimate
We're a small, growing outfit. If you're a solid carpenter who wants steady work, a say in how jobs get run, and a clear line to the owner instead of layers of management, we'd like to talk.
Pay: $1,300.00 - $2,000.00 per week
Work Location: In person
