TOWN OF BRIDGTONTRANSFER STATION FOREMAN

Nature of Work
This is practical work involving the operations and maintenance of the Town's Solid Waste Transfer Station facility.
The Transfer Station Foreman is expected to work directly with the Transfer Station staff, supervising and assisting the daily operations, including ensuring a safe and clean environment for the public and employees. The Transfer Station Foreman is also responsible for various administrative duties as required to oversee the work of the department. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director but requires the ability to work independently following established procedures and routines.
Employee of this class is responsible for the operation of the Transfer Station facility, the maintenance of all operational records, assisting in the practical work at the station and dealing with rubbish haulers and waste disposal services. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Director in accordance with established chain of command (Public Works Director, Public Works Lead Foreman). Work is reviewed through documentation, discussion and observation of results achieved monthly.
Examples of Work (Illustrative Only)
- Supervises the staff of the Transfer Station at the direction of the Public Works Director.
- Responsible for daily cash-up.
- Maintains records of Station operation and schedules delivery and removal of storage containers.
- Operates the Transfer Station equipment including the forklift.
- Makes arrangements for removal and sale of recyclable products.
- Directs citizens in the correct disposal of all materials.
- Separates wood debris from Municipal Solid Waste.
- Separates metal into different categories.
- Ensures maintenance on Transfer Station equipment.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements of Work
- CDL license preferred.
- Ability to maintain the Transfer Station in accordance with rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Ability to ensure repairs and adjustments are made and necessary servicing work is accomplished.
- Ability to supervise and direct the work of other Transfer Station staff.
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in equipment operation.
- Ability to operate equipment skillfully and safely.
- Ability to detect the need for mechanical servicing of equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions and to work independently in the performance of routine duties.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other Town employees.
- Ability to maintain records of Station operation.
- Assist the Public Works Director in developing the annual budget.
Desirable Education and Training
High school graduation, plus experience in the operation or maintenance of a Town dump or Transfer Station; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
