We are seeking an experienced nurse leader to oversee our clinical operations and help maintain the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and clinical excellence.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead all clinical operations within our Ambulatory Surgery Center. The DON will provide strategic and hands-on leadership for nursing services, clinical compliance, licensing, quality management, infection prevention, and staff development.
Working closely with the ASC Administrator, the DON will ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The ideal candidate is a confident clinical leader who enjoys mentoring teams, improving workflows, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise all clinical departments, including Pre-Op, Operating Room (OR), and PACU.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to all nursing and clinical staff.
- Lead the facility’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
- Oversee the Infection Prevention and Control Program, including surveillance, education, reporting, and compliance.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with CMS, Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Quad A, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
- Maintain facility readiness for surveys, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
- Oversee clinical staffing schedules, productivity, staffing levels, and resource allocation.
- Monitor patient care processes to promote safety, efficiency, positive outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
- Develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care.
- Lead staff education, competency assessments, orientation, and ongoing professional development.
- Monitor clinical quality indicators and implement corrective action and performance improvement initiatives when needed.
- Partner with the ASC Administrator and Medical Staff to support operational goals and physician satisfaction.
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona or qualifying compact license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN, MHA, or related master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical leadership or management experience in an ASC, hospital, or surgical setting.
- Previous ASC leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, infection prevention, sterilization practices, patient safety, and risk management.
- Working knowledge of CMS, ADHS, Quad A, and applicable healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and motivate clinical teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining high standards of patient care and regulatory compliance.
