The Buyer reports directly to the General Manger and is responsible for the material functions relating to the planning, procurement, storage, control and distribution of materials and products to meet company objectives and customer requirements. This involves the responsibility of shipping/receiving, direct purchasing, awareness of production, scheduling and inventory control.
·Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide concise documentation.
·Accurate, organized, detail-oriented, able to work well without close supervision and achieve goals beyond minimum levels of performance.
·Good computer skills including word-processing, spread sheets, ability to review reports and access information from Sage50.
·Due to the nature of our environment, strict confidentiality in all phases of employment is expected and must be maintained.
· Procurement of parts needed based on bill of materials including maintenance of machine drawings, if required. Utilize purchase order system (Sage50).
· Obtains material, equipment, components or supplies at lowest cost consistent with required quality, quantity and availability.
· Makes certain all purchasing documents are properly executed and the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
· Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages.
· Assures departmental records are maintained and that purchases are expedited when required. Department records include price histories to provide information on price variances.
· Interacts effectively with coworkers to communicate purchasing status or problems that may develop as machines are built.
· Monitors and maintains adequate levels for items used frequently or items with long delivery schedules to avoid disruption to assembly processes.
· Receive in parts and materials from vendors and subcontractors.
· Stores incoming parts, components or other purchases in customer job cart staging area, upon receipt.
· Assists with monthly reconciliation of inventory and purchases. Monitors that parts are coded to the specific job for which they were ordered. This includes the taking and valuing of the physical inventories. Maintenance of computerized inventory records.
