Position Overview:
Reporting to the Technical Design Manager, the Senior Technical Designer is responsible for leading the technical design process for assigned product categories from development through production. This role oversees garment fit, construction, and technical specifications while partnering closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and overseas factories to ensure products meet brand standards, quality expectations, and production timelines. The Senior Technical Designer also provides guidance and support to junior technical team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead fittings for assigned product categories, evaluate garment fit, and determine appropriate pattern corrections and construction improvements.
- Create, maintain, and approve detailed technical specification packages (tech packs) throughout the product lifecycle.
- Review and approve fit samples, pre-production samples, TOP samples, and production approvals.
- Communicate clear technical comments and corrective actions to overseas factory partners.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, Production, and Merchandising to ensure product intent is maintained while supporting manufacturability and cost objectives.
- Ensure garments meet company standards for fit, construction, grading, quality, and consistency.
- Manage fit calendars and prioritize approvals to support seasonal development and production deadlines.
- Identify technical issues early and provide solutions to minimize production risks.
- Mentor and support Fit Technicians and junior Technical Designers, providing technical guidance and training.
- Drive continuous improvements to technical processes, fit standards, and workflow efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of technical design experience within apparel.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit evaluation.
- Experience leading fittings and communicating directly with overseas factories.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple product categories in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with PLM/ERP systems is preferred.
- Mandarin language skills are a plus.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
