Wheeling Transportation is seeking a motivated and dependable Transportation Dispatcher to join our operations team in Palatine, IL. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient transportation planning, driver communication, customer service, and operational support.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess strong communication skills, and have prior transportation or brokerage experience.
Schedule & Compensation
- Monday – Friday
- 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Weekend supervisor rotation required- currently every 6th-weekend coverage and get Wednesday off prior to weekend coverage
- Full-Time Position
- Salary Range: $55,000 – $70,000 annually based on experience
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years transportation management experience preferred
- Brokerage experience preferred but not required
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations
- Experience with Trimble TMW transportation management software preferred
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Solution-based management mindset
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Main Responsibilities
Dispatch & Driver Communication
- Coordinate and ensure timely pickups and deliveries
- Communicate shipment updates with drivers, carriers, and customers
- Provide drivers with communication and performance feedback
- Collaborate with operations team to optimize transportation planning
Compliance & Operations
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company policies
- Utilize transportation management systems to monitor shipments
- Support daily transportation operations and dispatch functions
Administrative Responsibilities
- Create and manage delivery manifests
- Handle accessorial charges
- Update operating systems with communication notes and shipment details
- Validate delivery paperwork is completed accurately and returned properly
- Process shipping and receiving documentation efficiently
- Perform additional duties as assigned
