The City of Mansfield, Ohio, Director of Human Resources, announces the opening of the following full-time unclassified position in the Engineering Division:
Chief Deputy City Engineer
Posting Date: August 24, 2026 Deadline Date: Continuous posting until filled
Annual Salary: $65,000-$85,000 Ordinance #26-080
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
· Experience in civil engineering, municipal engineering, public infrastructure, construction, or a related field.
· Experience managing engineering or construction projects from design through completion.
· Ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, manage multiple projects and priorities, and resolve complex engineering and construction issues.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, experience with GIS.
· Ability to work well in a team environment, build positive working relationships, and contribute to a respectful, productive workplace
Position Summary:
The City of Mansfield is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to serve as Deputy City Engineer within the Engineering Division.
The Deputy City Engineer serves as a key member of the Engineering team and works closely with the City Engineer in the planning, design, administration, and construction of the City's public infrastructure projects. This position provides both technical and administrative leadership and assists with the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Division.
The position is involved in a wide range of municipal infrastructure, including roadway resurfacing, bridges, water systems, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, traffic engineering, and other public improvements. The Deputy City Engineer will manage projects from planning and design through bidding and construction, coordinate with consultants and contractors, while working with state and federal agencies.
This position is intended for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, managing projects, working with people and seeing projects move from concept to construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist the City Engineer with the overall administration and operation of the Engineering
Division and serve on behalf of the City Engineer when necessary.
· Manage and coordinate municipal capital improvement projects from initial planning and
design through bidding, construction, and project closeout.
· Assist with preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, bid
documents, technical reports, and other construction documents.
· Provide technical review and oversight of engineering work performed by consultants
and other professionals working on behalf of the City.
· Coordinate construction activities and assist with resolving field conditions, design
conflicts, utility conflicts, change orders, contractor questions, and other issues that arise
during construction.
· Assist with the planning, design, maintenance, and improvement of City infrastructure,
including streets, bridges, water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and traffic
related systems.
· Assist with grant-funded and externally funded projects, including project development,
agency coordination, documentation, reporting, and compliance with funding
requirements.
· Investigate infrastructure concerns and respond to questions from residents, businesses,
contractors, developers, elected officials, and other City departments.
· Perform other related duties as necessary to support the Engineering Division and the
City.
· You must have valid driver’s license.
