Position: Armed School Security Officers – THREE POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Locations: Head O’Meadow Elementary School (grade K-4), Reed Intermediate School
(grades 5&6), and Newtown High School (grades 9-12)
Starting Date: August 27, 2026
Shift Hours: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shift (7:00 am-3:00 pm or 8:00 am-4:00 pm), (With the
ability to provide coverage for shifts with short notice and work over-time
evenings, weekends, and holidays from time to time)
Salary Range: In accordance with the School Security Officers Contract $27.69/hour, with an
excellent benefits package
Qualifications:
Must be a retired CT law enforcement officer/retired in good standing or
meet the qualifications as defined under LEOSA
Ability to work well with students and parents at all levels;
Strong verbal communication skills;
Self-motivated team player; and
Good physical condition to maintain an active presence.
Responsibilities:
Provide security for the building and grounds of Newtown Public Schools;
Process visitors, provide walking patrol covering the hallways and other
areas of the school and campus;
Report and aid in the investigation of vandalism, theft, and other incidents
occurring on school property;
Willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions;
Available to work weekends for special school-sanctioned events both on
and off-campus;
Consult with administrators on a continuing basis; and
Carry out all facets of the job description consistently and enthusiastically,
including visitor management and video surveillance.
