# Director of Digital Content & Social Media
**Confidential Employer**
**Full-Time | Hybrid**
A growing professional-services organization is building an ambitious in-house digital media operation and is looking for an exceptional **Director of Digital Content & Social Media** to help lead it.
This is not a traditional corporate marketing role.
We are developing several distinct consumer-facing brands, each with its own audience, voice, digital presence, and content strategy. The goal is to build recognizable, trusted media properties around complex, high-stakes topics that affect individuals and families.
We are looking for someone who understands how people actually consume information today: short-form video, social platforms, creators, personalities, storytelling, podcasts, digital advertising, and increasingly AI-assisted discovery.
You will help turn complicated subjects into content that people will stop, watch, understand, remember, and trust.
## What You'll Build
You will help oversee the digital content and social strategy for a portfolio of consumer-facing brands.
That includes:
* Developing distinct voices and content strategies for multiple brands
* Creating and managing a consistent pipeline of original social content
* Producing short-form video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, and emerging platforms
* Working with on-camera talent, subject-matter experts, creators, and outside contributors
* Identifying timely stories and opportunities for rapid-response content
* Repurposing strong content intelligently across channels
* Coordinating organic and paid social campaigns
* Developing geographically and demographically targeted campaigns
* Working closely with web, search, and AI-driven discovery initiatives
* Testing hooks, formats, presenters, creative concepts, and distribution strategies
* Measuring what people actually watch, share, click, and respond to
* Building relationships with creators and evaluating potential partnerships
* Helping establish the systems, workflows, and standards of a growing internal media operation
## What You'll Actually Do
Some days you may be behind a camera.
Some days you may be editing a 30-second video.
Some days you may be helping an expert turn a complicated subject into a clear, compelling explanation.
Some days you may recognize that a developing story creates an opportunity to publish useful content quickly and get it in front of the right audience.
This role requires someone who can move comfortably between strategy and execution.
You should be able to think like a creative director, producer, editor, social strategist, and audience builder — and know when to do the work yourself versus when to coordinate others.
## Who We're Looking For
The right person may come from:
* Digital media
* Advertising
* Journalism
* Television
* Social-media production
* A creative agency
* Brand marketing
* A creator or influencer background
* An entrepreneurial media company
A background in professional services is not required.
We care much more about whether you understand **people, storytelling, and attention** than whether you have worked in a particular industry.
You should be someone who:
* Instinctively understands why one piece of content gets watched and another gets ignored
* Knows how to identify a compelling story or angle
* Writes conversationally rather than corporately
* Is comfortable producing and editing video
* Understands TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and emerging platforms
* Can make serious subjects engaging without making them superficial
* Has strong judgment and emotional intelligence
* Is comfortable working with executives, experts, creators, and people discussing sensitive subjects
* Understands analytics without confusing clicks with meaningful communication
* Is curious about how AI is changing content creation, audience discovery, and marketing
* Can manage multiple brands without making them all sound the same
* Wants real ownership rather than simply receiving assignments
## What Success Looks Like
We are not interested in filling social feeds with obligatory posts.
We want to build audiences.
Over time, the brands you help manage should become recognizable, credible, and useful to the people they serve.
Success means developing content that earns attention, builds familiarity, creates trust, and makes each brand increasingly valuable over time.
## Experience
We care more about your work than your résumé.
If you have:
* Built or significantly grown an audience
* Produced videos people actually watched
* Managed successful social campaigns
* Worked in digital journalism or television
* Built a brand from an early stage
* Created exceptional content independently
* Led creative or content strategy across multiple channels
—we want to see it.
Please include examples of the work you are proudest of and briefly explain **why you think it worked**.
## Why This Position Is Different
You will not be inheriting a mature corporate social-media department.
You will help build the operation.
The person who succeeds in this role will have meaningful creative influence, access to subject-matter experts and on-camera talent, resources to experiment, and the opportunity to help shape several brands at an early stage.
This is an opportunity for the right person to become the creative leader of a substantial in-house digital media platform.
**Employer identity will be disclosed to qualified candidates during the interview process.**
**Compensation:** 120-160k - Competitive salary commensurate with experience, with performance-based compensation available for exceptional candidates.
Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Dental insurance
- Flexible schedule
- Health insurance
Application Question(s):
- Please share a link to one piece of digital or social content you personally helped create that performed especially well. What was your role in creating it, and why do you believe it worked?
- Describe an audience, social account, brand, or digital property you have helped grow. Where did it start, where did it end up, and what did you personally do that contributed to that growth?
- How comfortable are you personally with short-form video production—including developing concepts, writing hooks/scripts, directing on-camera talent, shooting video, and editing? Please briefly describe which parts you can perform yourself and which you typically delegate.
- Imagine a significant news story breaks at 9:00 a.m. that is highly relevant to one of the brands you manage. Walk us through how you would decide whether to create content around it and, if appropriate, get high-quality content published that same day.
- This position involves helping build a multi-brand digital media operation rather than simply managing an established social-media calendar. What about that opportunity interests you, and what would you hope to build in your first 12 months?
