Job Overview
Douglas Express Delivery is seeking a motivated and dependable Night Shift Dock Supervisor to oversee overnight dock and linehaul operations. This position is responsible for ensuring freight is loaded accurately, safely, and efficiently while coordinating with drivers, terminal personnel, and management to maintain service standards and on-time departures.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, make sound operational decisions, and keep freight moving throughout the night.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all overnight dock operations, including freight sorting, cases pulled, and pallets built.
- Ensure trailers are loaded accurately according to destination terminals and route assignments.
- Verify proper freight distribution and load sequencing from heavy to light.
- Secure freight using ratchet straps, load locks, and other approved cargo securement methods.
- Maintain records of route assignments, trailer loading activities, and load departures.
- Coordinate with yard personnel and linehaul drivers to ensure drivers depart with the correct trailers.
- Ensure drivers receive the appropriate Bills of Lading (BOLs) for assigned loads.
- Monitor trailer and dolly inventory and coordinate equipment availability to prevent shortages.
- Communicate load status, schedule changes, and operational updates to drivers, terminal managers, and management.
- Evaluate opportunities to consolidate freight and maximize trailer utilization when appropriate.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers needing operational assistance during overnight hours.
- Work closely with management to ensure trailers are loaded according to terminal priorities and special service requirements.
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor overnight operations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service levels.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or dock operations required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of trailer loading, freight handling, and cargo securement practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of Bills of Lading (BOLs) and transportation documentation.
- Ability to work overnight hours and occasional weekends or holidays as needed.
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
