Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Over-the-Road (OTR) Truck Dispatcher to join our growing transportation company. This position is dedicated exclusively to our fleet and plays a vital role in maximizing revenue while providing exceptional support to our owner-operators.
The ideal candidate has previous experience dispatching dry van and flatbed freight, is comfortable negotiating with freight brokers, understands load boards, and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment. We are looking for someone who is proactive, organized, and committed to building strong relationships with both drivers and brokers.
This position is primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Eastern Time, with an expectation of being reasonably available after hours to assist drivers with urgent situations such as breakdowns, lumper payments, or time-sensitive broker communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, negotiate, and book profitable freight using load boards and established broker relationships.
- Dispatch owner-operators with complete and accurate load information, including pickup and delivery instructions.
- Plan efficient routes while considering Hours of Service (HOS), appointment times, driver preferences, and profitability.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout each trip to ensure safe and on-time deliveries.
- Provide shipment updates and resolve service issues with freight brokers as needed.
- Coordinate solutions for unexpected issues including breakdowns, roadside assistance, appointment changes, detention, and lumper payments.
- Complete broker setup packets and broker/carrier agreements when establishing relationships with new brokers.
- Collect Proofs of Delivery (PODs) and submit all required paperwork promptly to the appropriate factoring company.
- Monitor active loads to ensure excellent customer service and minimize delays.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with brokers to increase access to quality freight opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with company leadership to maximize truck utilization, revenue, and driver satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records of dispatched loads, communications, and required documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience as an OTR Truck Dispatcher.
- Experience dispatching dry van and/or flatbed freight.
- Proven ability to find, negotiate, and book profitable freight.
- Familiarity with major load boards and freight marketplaces.
- Strong understanding of transportation terminology and dispatch operations.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active loads simultaneously.
- Ability to solve problems quickly under pressure and make sound decisions.
- Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and dispatch software.
- Ability to work independently while remaining highly responsive to drivers and management.
Preferred
- Existing relationships with freight brokers.
- Experience with owner-operator fleets.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service.
- Experience working with factoring companies and load documentation.

- Reasonable after-hours availability for urgent driver support and operational issues
