Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring all tools are sterilized and ready for use according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry by providing chairside support with precision and care.
- Take high-quality dental x-rays and medical imaging using advanced equipment like 3D scanners while adhering to dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for clinical confidentiality policies.
- Monitor vital signs and assist in patient management before, during, and after treatments to ensure comfort and safety.
- Perform dental instrument processing tasks including sterilization, inventory management, and ensuring all dental equipment functions optimally.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient flow efficiently using patient management software.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with a strong understanding of dental terminology and anatomy knowledge.
- Experience operating dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other clinical tools with precision.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for accurate medical documentation and records management.
- Knowledge of infection control practices including dental sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection prevention standards.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry to enhance efficiency during procedures like oral surgery or endodontics.
- Strong communication skills suited for collaborating with team members including dental hygienists, dentists, and patients of all ages—especially pediatrics.
- Understanding of medical coding related to dental procedures to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping.
