About the Position
We are seeking a bilingual (Haitian Creole/English) Legal Assistant to join our growing personal injury law firm. This is primarily a remote position; however, the successful candidate must reside within reasonable driving distance of either our Fort Lauderdale or Port Saint Lucie office, as occasional in-office meetings, training, case preparation, or other business needs may require an on-site presence.
This is a temporary part-time position with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on performance, business needs, and demonstrated success in the role.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in personal injury law. Candidates with at least six (6) months of verifiable experience working in a personal injury law firm are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with legal research using LexisNexis and other legal research platforms.
- Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, reports, and other case-related materials with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Manage case files using case management software, including Cosmolex, ensuring proper organization, document management, and accurate data entry.
- Conduct client interviews in both Haitian Creole and English to obtain case information while providing outstanding client service.
- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally, screen and direct calls, provide accurate information, and take detailed messages for attorney follow-up.
- Assist with litigation support, including document review, case organization, discovery, and trial preparation.
- Schedule appointments, maintain attorney calendars, coordinate meetings, and perform general administrative and clerical duties.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure all client information is handled professionally and ethically.
QualificationsRequired
- Fluent in both Haitian Creole and English (spoken and written).
- Minimum of six (6) months of verifiable experience working in a personal injury law firm preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Typing speed of 50+ words per minute.
- Comfortable learning and working with legal case management software, including Cosmolex.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while remaining responsive and collaborative with the legal team.
- Must have reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated home office workspace.
- Must be available to report to our Fort Lauderdale or Port Saint Lucie office when needed.
Preferred
- Experience with LexisNexis or other legal research platforms.
- Prior paralegal experience.
- Experience with legal drafting, proofreading, transcription, contract review, and litigation support.
- Experience managing personal injury case files from intake through settlement or litigation.
