About the Role
As an Accounting Specialist at Next Day Dumpsters, your primary focus will be accounts receivable. You’ll manage invoicing, apply customer payments, monitor outstanding balances, and work directly with customers and internal teams to resolve account issues.
While AR will be your focus, you won’t be limited to just AR. You’ll also support accounts payable, vendor administration, reconciliations, month-end activities, and other needs across the accounting team.
We’re looking for someone who likes having a clear area of responsibility but is also energized by variety, learning new things, and pitching in where they can make an impact. We expect around 70% of your time will be dedicated to AR work and the remaining 30% to other areas to support the team.
Next Day Dumpsters is growing, and this role is designed for someone who wants to grow with it. You’ll have the opportunity to broaden your accounting experience, improve processes, and take on additional responsibility as new opportunities emerge.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare customer invoices and apply payments accurately and promptly.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up professionally on outstanding balances.
- Research and resolve billing questions, payment discrepancies, and account issues.
- Reconcile customer accounts and maintain accurate documentation.
- Partner with sales to resolve billing-related issues.
- Assist with vendor invoices, payment processing, vendor records, and inquiries.
- Support reconciliations, reporting, month-end activities, and accounting projects.
- Cross-train across the accounting department and step in where support is needed.
- Look for practical ways to make accounting processes more accurate and efficient.
Who You Are
- Have 2–4 years of hands-on accounts receivable experience, including invoicing, payment application, and collections follow-up.
- Take satisfaction in accurate work, organized records, and closing the loop on open items.
- Are comfortable communicating with customers about billing questions and outstanding balances.
- Enjoy solving problems and researching discrepancies rather than simply passing them along.
- Like being part of a small team committed to supporting each other and high quality work.
- Want exposure to multiple areas of accounting and the opportunity to expand your skills over time.
- Can manage competing priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Are comfortable with Microsoft Excel and learning new technology.
Experience with accounts payable, bookkeeping, Acumatica, or another ERP system is helpful but not required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred, though relevant experience will also be considered.
This will be an hybrid position. We are currently establishing and building our Raleigh office, and you’ll be part of establishing our initial culture and team.
