Reports To: Associate Executive Director/Sports Coordinator
The YMCA Coach plays a vital role in promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility through sports and recreational activities. This position requires a passionate individual who is dedicated to fostering a positive environment where participants can develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the spirit of teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching and Training:

Lead practices and games for youth teams, ensuring skill development and fostering a love for the sport.

Design and implement age-appropriate drills and activities to enhance athletic performance and teamwork.
Mentorship and Guidance:

Provide positive mentorship and support to participants, encouraging personal growth, sportsmanship, and respect.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding participant progress and development.
Program Development:

Collaborate with YMCA staff to create engaging and inclusive programs that meet the needs of the community.

Assist in the planning and organization of special events, tournaments, and team-building activities
Safety and Compliance:

Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants by adhering to YMCA safety protocols and policies.

Monitor participants during practices and events to ensure compliance with rules and guidelines.
Community Engagement:

Promote YMCA programs and encourage community involvement.

Build relationships with participants, families, and local organizations to foster a supportive sports community.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Education:
-
High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in child development, education, social work, sports management, physical education, or other related fields preferred.
Experience:
-
Previous coaching experience preferred, particularly with youth sports.

Strong knowledge of the sport(s) being coached.
Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire youth in a team setting.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Certifications:

CPR and First Aid certification required (can be obtained after hire).

Additional coaching certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements

Ability to engage in physical activity, including running, demonstrating skills, and participating in games.

Must be able to lift and move equipment as needed.
