The Role
This position sits at the intersection of interior architecture, design, and construction documentation.
The Junior Interior Architect will work closely with the Principal Designer and project team to translate design concepts into accurate, thoughtful, and buildable drawings. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, an understanding of residential construction, and an appreciation for the details that make an interior feel considered rather than simply decorated.
This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging designer who wants exposure to the full lifecycle of high-end residential projects and is interested in developing both technical and creative abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Interior Architecture & Space Planning
- Develop floor plans and furniture plans from initial concepts through design development. Assist with space planning, room layouts, circulation, and architectural relationships. Develop interior elevations for kitchens, bathrooms, built-ins, fireplaces, millwork, and other architectural elements. Translate sketches, field measurements, inspiration imagery, and design direction into accurate scaled drawings. Assist in developing architectural details including wall treatments, moldings, cabinetry, ceiling conditions, flooring transitions, niches, and built-ins.
Construction Documentation
- Prepare and maintain drawing sets for residential renovation and new-construction projects. Produce demolition, construction, reflected ceiling, lighting, electrical, plumbing, finish, and millwork drawings as required by the project. Create clear dimensions, annotations, construction callouts, and installation details. Coordinate drawings with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, and construction information. Incorporate redlines and revisions accurately and efficiently. Help maintain drawing standards, title blocks, libraries, and documentation systems for the studio.
Custom Cabinetry & Millwork
- Develop detailed cabinetry and millwork elevations. Assist with kitchen, bath, closet, built-in, bar, mudroom, and specialty cabinetry design. Coordinate dimensions, appliance specifications, plumbing fixtures, hardware, stone, lighting, and other components affecting cabinetry. Communicate design intent clearly to cabinetmakers, fabricators, and trades.
Project & Construction Support
- Participate in site measures and field verification. Assist with documenting existing conditions. Review shop drawings and vendor drawings against the design intent. Help respond to contractor and trade questions during construction. Participate in site meetings and installations as appropriate. Identify potential dimensional or coordination issues before they become field problems.
Design Development
- Research materials, finishes, fixtures, and architectural references. Assist with material palettes and finish selections. Create presentation drawings, elevations, and visual studies. Support development of kitchens, bathrooms, custom furnishings, and architectural details. Prepare drawings and imagery for client presentations. Help the design team evaluate options for proportion, scale, material, and architectural character.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage revisions and multiple projects simultaneously. Confidence communicating with designers, contractors, fabricators, and vendors. A willingness to learn and an interest in both historic and contemporary design.
Software Skills
Candidates should be proficient in professional drafting/design software. Experience with some combination of the following is preferred:
- AutoCAD Revit SketchUp Adobe Creative Suite Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
Experience with rendering software and project management platforms is a plus.
The Person We're Looking For
Technical ability matters, but so does how someone thinks.
We are looking for someone who is curious, precise, resourceful, and visually sophisticated. Someone who notices when a cabinet proportion feels wrong, asks how something will actually be constructed, and cares whether a detail works in the field as much as it does on paper.
You should be comfortable receiving direction and redlines, but also willing to think independently, ask good questions, and propose solutions.
Our studio is collaborative and hands-on. Projects evolve quickly, and the right person will enjoy being involved in many aspects of the process rather than working within a narrowly defined role.
What You'll Gain
This position offers meaningful exposure to the complete residential design and construction process, including:
- High-end residential renovations and new construction Interior architectural development Custom cabinetry and millwork Kitchens and bathrooms Construction documentation Material and finish development Trade and vendor coordination Site and construction experience Client presentations Furniture, lighting, antiques, and decorative arts
As the studio grows, there is significant opportunity for this role to grow in responsibility and project ownership.
To Apply
Please submit a resume and portfolio demonstrating both technical drawing ability and design sensibility.
Portfolios should ideally include examples of floor plans, interior elevations, cabinetry or millwork drawings, construction documentation, and completed or rendered design work.
