Experienced Tax Accountant
A well-established, full-service public accounting firm in the Clear Lake area, serving clients since 1995, is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to support our growing client base. The ideal candidate will have 4-5 years of recent public accounting tax experience and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality service to a diverse client base.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
Position Summary
The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, maintaining accurate client records, and supporting tax planning and consulting engagements. This role requires the ability to work independently while maintaining open communication with firm leadership on complex or unusual matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review complex tax returns with minimal supervision
- Identify and elevate complex or unusual tax issues to the Tax Manager or Partner
- Work with a variety of returns, such as individual, corporate, partnership, gift and trust
- Assist with IRS Inquiries and negotiations, as needed
- Track and maintain accurate time records for client billing
Core Functions and Expectations
- Develop a strong understanding of firm policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Build and maintain professional client relationships with a focus on service and excellence
- Conduct tax research using firm-approved resources and databases
- Utilize firm technology effectively, including Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Thomson Reuters Suite (UltraTax, File Cabinet CS, Practice CS, Fixed Assets CS, Checkpoint)
- Take ownership of assigned tax preparation and consulting engagements
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive work environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned by firm leadership
Qualifications
- 4 – 5 years of tax experience in public accounting
- Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax regulations
- Proficiency in tax and accounting software (Thomson Reuters experience preferred)
- Solid general ledger accounting skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak seasons
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
