We are seeking a reliable and skilled General Maintenance person to perform a variety of maintenance, outdoor, and landscaping tasks at our small lakefront resort, The Cottages on Petite Lake. We're a small, family-run business and are looking for someone who can communicate clearly, work efficiently, and is a self-starter. Most work will be independent, but will require coordinating and working alongside owners, the cleaning team, and manager.
Guests rent the cottages as vacation getaways for one night up to a couple of weeks. Each cottage has a yard, hot tub, fire pit, grill and more. All units are older, summer cottages that are NOT perfect, but have been fixed up and we continue to improve them as time goes on. We strive to create a fun, relaxing, and quirky environment that our guests come to create memories with family and friends. Some days may be fun and laid back while others may be a lot of hard work. We provide tools and supplies as needed. You are welcome to use your own if preferred.
This is a hands-on role that requires a strong understanding of general maintenance tasks. Tasks range from in-home repairs to lawn mowing and beach cleanup. We host weddings and family reunions that require us to put up large event tents and complete other miscellaneous tasks.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Painting, pressure washing, snow removal, lawn mowing, and general lawn upkeep
-Garbage removal, grill cleaning, hot tub testing, fire pit cleaning, etc.
-Carpentry tasks such as deck repairs, dock repairs, building a flower box, etc.
-Plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks, installing a new sink or dishwasher, or filling/draining hot tubs (hot tub training provided)
-Miscellaneous home tasks such as cleaning + replacing filters, hanging pictures, painting, drywall repair, hanging a new door, moving furniture, hooking up a stove, etc.
-Work closely with the cleaning manager to ensure that indoor cottage repairs are completed in a timely manner so the cleaning crew has time to prep the cottage for guest arrivals. Most indoor fixes will happen during gap days or from 11:00am- 3:00pm when guests aren't present. If the maintenance is urgent, tasks may need to be completed while guests are present. Friendly and good customer service is a must.
-Knowledge of boats, piers, and the waterfront lifestyle is a major plus. We have a rental boat that requires oil changes and general repairs. We send it out for large service tasks. The piers are wooden floating piers that need upkeep regularly from the busy lake.
-Collaborate with other maintenance and cottage crew members in a safe and respectful way and arrive to work on time consistently.
-Experience with HVAC, septic, and other home-related systems is a major plus, but not required.
*We own two other local businesses that require maintenance, but not as routinely or frequently as The Cottages. They are all within a five minute drive. We are looking for someone flexible that has strong time management skills. When given a list of tasks, prioritizing based on time, availability and urgency is extremely important.
