We are hiring a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor – Supervisee (CSAC-S) who already holds an active CSAC-S registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling. This credential must be in place at the time of application.
In this position, you’ll provide structured substance use counseling, complete assessments, support clients through recovery, and collaborate with our clinical team to ensure all services meet DBHDS and Medicaid standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group substance use counseling under clinical supervision
- Complete SUD screenings, assessments, and risk evaluations
- Assist with developing and updating person-centered treatment plans
- Teach coping skills, relapse-prevention strategies, and recovery tools
- Monitor progress and help clients navigate barriers to treatment
- Provide crisis support when needed and follow all safety protocols
- Maintain accurate medical records and document progress notes using proper CPT and ICD coding standards
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate home and community-based services
- Participate in data collection and outcome monitoring to strengthen service delivery
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements for documentation, confidentiality, and behavioral health practices
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with addiction medicine and behavioral health best practices
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete notes, treatment plans, and required documentation within timelines
- Keep accurate, compliant records aligned with DBHDS and Medicaid expectations
- Follow confidentiality laws, mandatory reporting rules, and professional boundary standards
Collaboration & Communication
- Participate in supervision with an approved Clinical Supervisor
- Attend team meetings, trainings, and case consultations
- Coordinate care with internal staff and outside providers to support client outcomes
Qualifications Required
- Active CSAC-S credential issued by the Virginia Board of Counseling
- Experience working with individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders
- Strong written, verbal, and clinical communication skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and work independently
- Valid driver’s license and reliable local travel
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong crisis-management skills with a calm, professional approach
- Excellent documentation habits and full understanding of HIPAA and medical record standards
Preferred
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria
- Experience in community-based behavioral health
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and safety planning

- Full-time, primarily Monday–Friday with flexibility based on client needs
