JOB
The Journeyman Electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems and specialized low-voltage security systems including access control, CCTV, and fire/life-safety systems. The role supports construction and project management activities, procurement, and safety within Facilities Management.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Electrical Systems

Install, maintain, and repair electrical components and systems.

Perform diagnostics and repairs on MEP-related systems (motor starters, VFDs, building automation sensors, occupancy relays, interlocks, etc).

Read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.

Troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical and electrical components.
-
Conduct inspections using diagnostic equipment to evaluate performance and safety.
Security & Low-Voltage Systems

Install, maintain, repair, and/or replace security system components (access control devices, surveillance cameras, fire/life-safety devices, etc).

Diagnose and troubleshoot security hardware issues.
-
Collaborate with County Security Staff on door schedules, key-card management, and system troubleshooting.

Maintain electrical locks, door hardware, and perform security-related inspections.

Assist IT with UPS troubleshooting and related electrical tasks.
Project & Construction Support

Support construction management for electrical and low-voltage installations, replacements, and repairs.

Assist with coordinating small projects, including contractor oversight.

Manage small-project life cycles and assigned operational budget line items.

Provide technical oversight of security assets and capital electrical systems.

Assist with energy-related grant documentation.
Maintenance & Operations
-
Document preventative and corrective maintenance in the CMMS.

Enter and manage work orders and service requests.
-
Support maintenance staff with procedures, technical guidance, and safe work practices.

Follow maintenance schedules and foreman instructions.

Participate in winter operations, including snow and ice removal at County facilities.
General Responsibilities

Maintain clean and orderly work areas; properly store tools and equipment.

Follow safety protocols when handling tools, equipment, and heavy items.

Communicate effectively with leadership regarding building issues and requests.

Participate in training and on-the-job learning.
-
Support countywide safety and risk-management efforts.
