Regional School Unit 57Title: Bus DriverQualifications: High School diploma and/or formal training in bus driving or an equivalent combination of training, education and experienceValid State of Maine CDL, Class B with P & S Endorsements (required)To communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, community, and school personnelReports to: Director of TransportationJob Goal: 1. Safe operation, maintenance, and routing of the assigned school bus on a day-to-day basisPerformance Responsibilities: Operate school bus safely on a daily basisCheck bus before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection formClean assigned bus inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriateDischarge students only at authorized stopsEnforce rules governing student conduct on buses and utilize districts formal discipline procedure when appropriateReport any damage of vehicle to Director of TransportationFile accident report as necessaryRequire students to walk in front of the bus and await driver signal before they cross the highwayUtilize safe driving practices in accordance with State lawAbide by districts drug and alcohol testing policyAssign students to bus seats when circumstances warrantAssist the Director of Transportation in the planning of bus stops and scheduleRefer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of TransportationAssist in inter-school delivery of mail, and suppliesEnsure that the bus is empty and secured whenever the bus is unattended. Periodically check the bus for security purposesPerform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assignedPhysical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
