Job Summary
Position Overview The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with commercial, residential, public customers while proactively seeking new work opportunities to support Nampa Paving’s production goals and commitment to quality. This role prepares accurate, dual-checked takeoffs for earthwork and paving, follows established estimating productions and margins, and ensures that larger or more complex bids receive appropriate review. This role also reports into the Lead Project Manager for assigned tasks, verification of production plans, and development needs. The Estimator/PM issues timely paving proposals, performs regular follow-up on sent proposals, and, once projects are awarded, coordinates with the Lead Project Manager to set up jobs in company systems, develops and routes subcontract agreements and bonds for required approvals, and collaborates closely with the COO through preconstruction, biweekly production meetings, change order resolution, subcontractor invoice review, and project closeout, including warranty initiation. For paving projects, this position also monitors the paving schedule, validates awarded scopes and oil grades against original estimates when jobs are released, and ensures paving layouts and quantities are provided in advance so field leadership can confirm depth and tonnage during site walks prior to paving.
Duties
- At the direction of the Lead Project Manager work on specific projects and processes that impact the overall business. Search out new job opportunities and develop strong relationships with current and new customers in commercial/residential/public/ and agriculture. Prepare accurate and detailed takeoffs for all bidding projects; target two independent takeoffs per job when feasible and verify earthwork quantities with vendor partners to ensure accuracy and alignment. Work with Lead Project Manager on current estimating production/margins within BTW and capture rate to keep appropriate work flowing. Follow current estimating productions/margins within BTW. Small jobs are simple and larger jobs needs several sets of eyes on them to vairy from productions. Weekly follow up of sent proposals and status. Actively develop paving takeoffs and paving proposals to customers. Seek out new paving customers paving jobs to keep the paving crew going. Review weekly with Lead Project Manager any proposal submitted. Keep Lead Project manager updated on clients as needed for adjustments and updates. Process all approved proposals layouts into internal workflows timely, and double checked with GC (will approval) with product quantities and plans revisions. When awarded projects coordinate with Lead Project Manager to import the job to software system and set the project up in designated internal storage location, add project to job list, upload schedule and plans where necessary. When subcontractors are listed develop contracts with office assistants and review for signature from CEO and the subcontractor. When bonds are required send the contract to the bonding agent for bonds and provide to CEO for signature and approval and provide to the agency needing the bonds. Work with Lead Project Manager and COO on how the project was estimated. Productions, pits, and the mindset behind the estimate. Work with them to create the platform for a successful project. When project starts work with the Lead Project Manager and COO on the biweekly meetings to ensure that productions are being met and resolve any issues or Change orders that need to be addressed prior to work being completed. Review with Lead Project Manager subcontractor invoicing and approval for payment. Review with Lead Project Manager and COO the weekly billing reports. When the project is completed ensure all close out procedures are done and the warranty is started. Monitor and attended meetings related to the paving schedule(s) for all custom paving projects, and when a project is scheduled, review the original estimate and takeoff, send updated information to the general contractor, and confirm that plans and oil grade remain unchanged. After confirming scope and materials, upload paving layouts and related details to the designated shared drive so the Lead Project Manager, COO and Superintendent(s) can verify depth and tonnage during the pre-paving site walk. Attend meetings related to assigned projects. Update/upload necessary files, documents to designated drop box(s). Work closely with Lead Project Manager to maintain Nampa Paving external and internal relationships.
Experience
- Experience in heavy civil construction, paving, or asphalt operations required. Valid driver’s license. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop crews. Knowledge of paving methods, material handling, and construction logistics. Proven ability to manage project schedules, inspections, and agency requirements. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects. Understanding of project budgeting, quantities tracking, and cost control. Knowledge of local, state, and federal construction regulations. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training or coursework in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum 5+ years of experience in paving, asphalt, or heavy civil construction. Previous supervisory experience in leadership roles preferred. Knowledge of project management software (Blue Beam, Bid to Win, Heavy Bid, etc.) preferred.
