Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, certified Mine Foreman to lead daily underground operations at Mountaineer No. 1. This first-line supervisory and statutory role directs section production, conducts required examinations, and owns the safety of every employee under your charge each shift.
Responsibilities
- Direct production, roof control, ventilation, and haulage for the assigned section or shift per the approved mine plan.
- Conduct required pre-shift, on-shift, and fire boss examinations of working places, travelways, escapeways, and belt lines.
- Supervise, train, and coach the section crew in safe, efficient work practices.
- Enforce WVOMHST and MSHA compliance, and correct or withdraw personnel from hazardous conditions.
- Coordinate with mine management, engineering, and maintenance to minimize downtime and hit production targets.
- Maintain accurate shift, production, and examination records.
Required Qualifications
- Valid WV Underground Mine Foreman-Fire Boss Certificate (or Assistant Foreman-Fire Boss, eligible to test for Foreman), issued by WVOMHST.
- Valid WV Miner’s Certificate, in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years’ underground coal mining experience, including 18 months on a working section (or equivalent accredited education/experience recognized by WVOMHST).
- Working knowledge of WV Code §22A and MSHA 30 CFR Part 75.
- Ability to work underground on a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Preference given to candidates with prior metallurgical coal experience and established roots in the local area.
- Preferred Qualifications would include current WV Mine Foreman continuing education/electrical hazards training; prior continuous miner section supervision; and First Aid/CPR/AED or mine rescue experience a plus.
- Safety-Sensitive Role. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb for a full underground shift; lift up to 80 lbs occasionally; wear required PPE; and meet applicable vision, hearing, and medical fitness standards for underground work, subject to reasonable accommodation.
