Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Locum Nurse Practitioner - Surgery Cardiothoracic for our client in Iowa!
Responsibility
- Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic clinical services across both inpatient clinic and on-call settings.
- Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and assist with surgical cases as required by the clinical workflow.
- Conduct weekday clinical evaluations and manage patient care within a program averaging 125 CABG cases per year.
- Manage a shared call rotation with a 1:2 call ratio, providing designated night and 24-hour weekend coverage.
- Coordinate cross-functional care between the clinic and hospital teams to optimize inpatient outcomes.
Qualification
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Minimum of two years of direct clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery.
- Hands-on proficiency and experience with Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) are strictly required.
- Board-Certified status is required.
- Active state medical license (willing to license candidates not applicable).
- Required current certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and a clean NPDB report.
- Ability to obtain full hospital and surgery center privileges.
Schedule
- Estimated Start Date: 8/1/2026
- Coverage Window: Specific blocks from September 2026 through December 2026:
- September: 7–11 and 28–Oct 2 (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; No night call).
- October: 5–9 (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM + Night call); 10–11 (24-hour weekend call, ends at 0800 on Oct 12).
- November: 23–25 and 27 (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM + Night call); 26 and 28 (24-hour holiday/weekend call, ends at 0700 on Nov 29).
- December: 21–25 and 28–31 (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM + Night call); 26–27 (24-hour weekend call).
- Structure: A varied mix of standard daytime clinical hours, weeknight call, and 24-hour weekend on-call blocks.
- Credentialing Timeframe: 60-90 day process.
Skills
- High-level technical proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and surgical assistance.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical management skills specifically tailored for cardiothoracic surgery workflows.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-intensity settings, managing complex inpatient and surgical cases.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to navigate a 1:2 call environment alongside surgical teams.
- Flexibility and strong time management skills to seamlessly transition between daytime clinic duties and urgent on-call demands.
