We're partnering with a well-established custom machine builder in the Dayton area that designs and builds custom automated manufacturing equipment for a variety of industries. They're looking to add a Controls Engineer II to their engineering team to support the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of custom automation systems.
This is a true cradle-to-grave engineering role where you'll collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial electrical design through customer startup.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design electrical control systems for custom automated machinery.
- Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs, primarily Allen-Bradley-based systems.
- Configure and integrate VFDs, servo systems, motors, instrumentation, and other industrial control components.
- Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting during machine build, testing, and startup.
- Support machine commissioning, customer installations, and field service as needed.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions from concept through completion.
What They're Looking For
- Experience designing and programming industrial control systems for automated machinery.
- PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley or another major platform (Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, GE, etc.).
- Strong AutoCAD Electrical experience creating schematics and electrical documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, including 480V three-phase power, 24VDC I/O, motors, VFDs, and instrumentation.
- Mechanical troubleshooting experience with pneumatics, vacuum systems, pumps, or fluid handling equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial networking such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Remote I/O, or similar communication protocols.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical standards such as NFPA 79 and UL 508A.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
