Overview
We are seeking a Mattress Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production in the assigned areas and managing workflow to meet manufacturing goals and objectives. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the manufacturing activities of assigned production teams to maintain output and production sequence, as well as achieve manufacturing results. This role is a “working supervisor” role, is expected to jump in on the manufacturing floor as needed and is therefore in a position to continuously interact with the workers to ensure company safety standards are complied.
Responsibilities
- Onboard new employees, establish and monitor safe working conditions and practices
- Ensure all employees in the assigned areas are provided appropriate equipment, and that the equipment is adequately maintained and safely operated
- Manage the production schedule including:
Create work schedules
Manage headcount, timesheets and attendance
Set daily departmental expectations and goals
- Maintains employee records pertaining to attendance and work hours and communicates timekeeping and pay information as required to ensure proper and timely payment of wages.
- Determine the material resources required.
- Place PO’s and order materials from the warehouse and approved vendors.
- Be proactive in taking measures, offering suggestions, and corrective actions to maximize throughput
- Maintain positive employee relations and build a high-performance team
- Maintain training and development plans for direct reports and overall department, including the maintenance of the associated skills matrix
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching when needed and ensure deserving employees are recognized
- Drive quality improvement, initiate defect reports and assure implementation of corrective action
- Initiate disciplinary action as required that underperforming employees are given the direction required to improve their performance.
- Provide recommendations to the Plant Manager/Assistant Plant Manager on hiring/firing decisions
- Collaborate with management to optimize manufacturing procedures and enhance overall productivity.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years production experience in front line manufacturing
- Mattress manufacturing experience is preferred.

- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques including ability to read and understand manufacturing specifications
- Ability to effectively organize work assignments, establish levels of responsibility, delegate appropriate authority and review the work and performance of subordinates in a manner conducive to efficient performance and high morale
- Strong analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
- Willing to learn and adapt lean techniques
- Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Working Hours
- Working hours are Monday- Friday 7am to 4:30pm, however there is an expectation that the Production Supervisor is needed to work longer hours and Saturdays (ex. Inventory counts or cycle counts, weekends during busy periods).
Special Requirements
- Work requires standing approximately 50% of the time, walking and moving around the facility 25% of the time, and sitting approximately 25% of the time.
- Job duties require occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Must occasionally push and pull up to 100 lbs. When practical, assistance, special lifting and moving equipment should be utilized.
- Job responsibilities require frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling and moving around the production areas. Manual dexterity is needed for handling materials, adjusting controls, and feeling. Reaching with hands and arms is required.
- Normal hearing abilities and speaking abilities are required by this job. Vision requirements require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
- Approximately 90% of duties are performed inside in a temperature-controlled environment. The remainder of the time would be spent outside and would have exposure to temperature changes and adverse weather conditions.
- May occasionally be exposed to work hazards, such as wet or humid conditions, vibrations from equipment, and electrical or mechanical equipment hazards.
- Frequently exposed to moving parts on machinery as well as movement of forklifts and other production equipment.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes, odors, dust, mist and poor ventilation.
- Must follow safety precautions and use personal protective equipment when needed, such as safety glasses, earplugs, and gloves.
