Compensation: $60-$65/hr up to 16 hours per week
Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides primary and behavioral healthcare services within a residential recovery program, including serving as the primary care provider for patients without an established PCP. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, and supporting continuity of care for individuals with substance use and co-occurring conditions. The PMHNP manages medications, including evaluating current prescriptions and issuing new orders as clinically appropriate. The position requires consistent documentation and communication with the Recovery Team, clinical staff, and leadership regarding patient needs and program impacts. The PMHNP also supports staff training and contributes to the development and implementation of policies in alignment with CARF and COMAR requirements.
Initial Role and Responsibilities:
- During the initial phase of the role, the PMHNP will focus on establishing clinical workflows, enhancing care coordination, and building capacity for integrated physical and behavioral health services.
- The role includes supporting the development of documentation practices and service models aligned with reimbursement requirements.
- Following the initial development period, the position is expected to transition to a billable caseload to support sustainability of services through third-party reimbursement.
- The PMHNP will provide support in preparing the program for this transition, including aligning services with payer requirements and regulatory standards.
Ongoing Responsibilities:
- Serves as Primary Care Physician (PCP) for any residential patient who enter the program without an ongoing PCP.
- Provides physical and mental health assessment for new patients with a view toward understanding any chronic health needs.
- Treatment planning required to ensure continuity of care and to maximize opportunity for patients to benefit from participation in the program.
- Provides medication management support including evaluation of current prescriptions for any residential patients to assess effectiveness, ongoing need, and potential replacement strategies.
- Submits new prescriptions as needed to address chronic, acute or mental health diagnoses.
- Keeps case notes and documents summaries of meetings with patients.
- Communicates with Recovery Team, other clinical staff, and Management about any issues or concerns which may impact the client’s successful completion of the program, Mission operations or the well-being of individual patients or the Mission community.
- Conducts professional development activities including but not limited to Recovery Team trainings on topics pertinent to health and well-being of patients, substance use disorder treatments and strategies, psychiatric and other medications and consequences of abuse or side effects of use or discontinued use.
- Contributes to delineation and implementation of program policies and procedures to ensure conformance with CARF and any COMAR requirements or other regulations.
- Works to resolve conflicts in straightforward and timely manner.
Minimum Skill and Education Requirements:
- Must have current CRNP and PMHNP credentials; NPI and Medicaid number preferable.
- Familiarity with CARF behavioral health standards and experience with implementation of policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with COMAR 10.63.
- Has knowledge of and experience working with substance use disorder population and addiction treatment providers.
- Exhibits good judgment, sensitivity and compassion.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills.
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule, with an average of 16 hours per week, including any supportive work conducted away from the campus.
- Maintains a respectful and considerate relationship with patients and staff regardless of race, gender, age, appearance or circumstances.
- Ability to work independently, showing initiative, as well as collaboratively, with commitment to spirit of teamwork and greater good of the Mission community.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Programs, policies and procedures of the Mission.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing, sitting, typing, bending, and lifting to 35 pounds.
