Duties
- Review and interpret medical records, including oncology-specific documentation, to ensure accurate coding and billing.
- Assign appropriate Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis codes for oncology procedures and treatments.
- Prepare and submit clean claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, adhering to payer requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, communicating with insurance providers to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, corrections, and appeals to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with medical staff to clarify documentation issues that may affect billing accuracy.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and oncology treatment protocols to optimize reimbursement processes.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical coding principles, including DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems specific to oncology.
- Proficiency in medical billing procedures within EMR/EHR systems and familiarity with medical records management.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology related to oncology treatments and procedures.
- Experience in medical collection efforts and resolving billing disputes efficiently.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and apply appropriate codes accordingly.
