Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our emergency care team.
The ED RN provides urgent and emergent care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department, performing triage, clinical assessment, stabilization, and treatment of acute conditions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while collaborating closely with physicians, EMS providers, and interdisciplinary care teams.

Rotating coverage may include weekends and holidays

Perform triage assessments using ESI (Emergency Severity Index) guidelines
-
Assess and monitor patients’ clinical condition and prioritize care accordingly
-
Provide emergency nursing care and interventions to stabilize acute conditions
-
Perform comprehensive patient assessments including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and hemodynamic status

Initiate treatments including IV therapy, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, splinting, catheter placement, and other emergency procedures

Administer medications safely using the seven rights of medication administration

Monitor patient responses to treatment and reassess condition throughout the ED stay

Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions

Provide emotional support and guidance during emergent situations

Promote patient safety and participation in the care plan

Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS personnel, and hospital departments

Communicate patient status and care plans effectively across the care team

Facilitate appropriate patient transfers and admissions using standardized handoff methods (SBAR)

Document patient assessments, treatments, and changes in condition in the electronic health record

Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental competencies

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program

BSN preferred

Current Colorado RN license in good standing

Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers

TNCC certification required

ACLS certification required (or must obtain within 3 months of hire)

PALS certification required (or must obtain within 3 months of hire)

CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification preferred

Strong emergency assessment and triage skills

Ability to respond effectively in high-stress clinical situations

Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition

Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities

Proficiency with electronic health record systems

Hospital emergency department with high-acuity patient care

Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials

Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and urgent situations

Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients

Base Compensation Range: $33.25 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
- Shift Differential Pay:
- Swing Shift Differential: Employees who work majority of hours between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. receive a Swing Shift Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour.
- Night Shift Differential: Employees who work majority of hours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. receive a Night Shift Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour.
