Accounting Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead and optimize our financial operations across multiple entities and business units. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of all accounting activities, while driving process improvements and supporting strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will oversee full-cycle accounting operations, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, while managing key functions such as payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and multi-entity financial consolidation. This position also plays a critical role in implementing systems, enhancing controls, and mentoring staff to maintain high standards across all financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow) in accordance with GAAP.
- Produce and review monthly management reports across multiple entities.
- Perform cash flow analysis and ensure accurate forecasting and financial insights.
- Review all profit and loss statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Close books within 10 days of month-end while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
General Accounting Operations
- Oversee general ledger activities, including:
- Journal entries
- Account reconciliations
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Bank reconciliations
- Maintain and improve chart of accounts (GL structure) and recommend enhancements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and proper approvals.
- Screen and validate all AP transactions for compliance and accuracy.
- Assist with expense postings and cash activity tracking.
Multi-Entity & Property Accounting
- Create and maintain starting balance sheets for corporations and properties.
- Manage accounting integration with PropertyWare (PW) and other systems.
- Produce property-level cash flow reports and budgets.
- Drive adoption of ACH payments and automation tools.
- Evaluate and implement financial tools such as check-writing platforms and equity management systems.
Payroll, HR & Administrative Finance
- Process and manage payroll (ADP / ACH) across entities.
- Oversee new hire documentation, benefits administration, and HR-related financial tasks.
- Manage financial aspects of employee records and filing systems.
Compliance, Tax & Regulatory Reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX (if applicable), and state regulations.
- File required reports for Texas, California, and Delaware entities.
- Support tax preparation and filings, including coordination with external advisors.
- Assist with multi-jurisdiction operations, including international transfers (e.g., German team).
- Maintain awareness of tax law, securities regulations, and entity compliance requirements.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Evaluate and recommend improvements such as:
- Transition to accrual accounting
- Accounting system enhancements
- Automation and efficiency initiatives
- Identify and implement low-cost vendors and financial service providers.
- Maintain organized financial records and long-term document storage systems.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff and administrative support.
- Provide training in technical accounting concepts and software systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and operational teams.
- Delegate and oversee administrative financial support tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven experience in accounting management, preferably in multi-entity or property management environments.
- Strong knowledge of:
- GAAP
- Financial reporting
- Account reconciliation
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, PropertyWare, Bill.com, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms.
- Expertise in:
- Payroll processing (ADP or ACH)
- Accounts payable/receivable
- Financial analysis and reporting
- Experience with tax preparation and compliance across multiple states.
- Ability to manage complex financial data and multi-entity structures.
- Strong understanding of process improvement and system implementation.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting experience.
- Familiarity with SOX compliance, SEC reporting, or international accounting practices.
- Experience with property accounting or real estate portfolios.
- Exposure to equity management systems and corporate structuring.
