Possible lead-teacher and/or assistant teaching position is for the 2026-2027 school year running from September through May. Teaching hours will be from 8:45 am - 12:15 pm. Days of the week to be determined. Lead teaching position will be paid 4 hours each day worked. Assistant teacher is paid 3.5 hours daily. Infrequent additional hours may be required for staff meetings or events.
Position Summary
The lead preschool teacher is responsible for preparing children for kindergarten using various methods and techniques such as storytelling, games, music and art to teach students basic social skills and learning concepts. The teacher will teach and enforce classroom rules and appropriate behavior. He/she will regularly communicate with parents/guardians and will provide written assessments three times a year, including at least one scheduled parent/teacher conference. The teacher will share all duties with a co-teacher in the same classroom.
Skills and Qualifications
A successful preschool teacher will have various skills and qualifications to perform the required duties, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, co-teacher and staff
- Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks and snack
- Track childrens’ progress and report to parents
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
- Help children reach developmental milestones
- Collaborate with others to implement lesson plans
- Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills
- Provide appropriate supervision for children at all times
- Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling
- Adhere to health/safety and sanitation procedures
- Exhibit a patient and nurturing relationship with all students
- Adjust classroom and teaching methods to be in accordance with IEPs
(Assistant teacher responsibilites are more limited.)
Education and Training Requirements
- A four-year college or university degree (a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related discipline is preferred)
- Prior experience working with children
- Two professional letters of reference
- Completed clearances (instructions provided by FPC) including:
- The Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
- The Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification
- Completed Online Mandated Reporter Youth Protection Training
