Job Summary
Child Care Staff are responsible for providing a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children enrolled in the Pioneer Adventure Club (PAC) Before and After School Program. Staff work directly with school-age children by supervising daily activities, leading games and enrichment opportunities, assisting with homework, supporting positive behavior, and building meaningful relationships with children and families.
Working under the direction of the Program Director, Child Care Staff help create an inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to learn and grow.
Responsibilities
Child Supervision & Engagement
- Provide active supervision of children at all times to ensure their health, safety, and well-being.
- Build positive relationships with children while serving as a caring and supportive role model.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, recreational activities, STEAM projects, homework support, and other enrichment opportunities.
- Participate alongside children during activities and encourage positive engagement.
- Assist with snack service, transitions, arrival, dismissal, and daily routines.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios in accordance with Nebraska licensing regulations.
- Supervise children indoors, outdoors, on playgrounds, in gyms, cafeterias, classrooms, and during field trips or special events.
Behavior Support
- Promote positive behavior using program expectations and behavior management strategies.
- Encourage problem-solving, cooperation, responsibility, and respect.
- Address minor behavior concerns appropriately and communicate significant concerns to the Program Director.
- Document incidents as required.
Program Support
- Assist with preparing materials for daily activities.
- Set up and clean up activity areas, snack areas, classrooms, and equipment.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
- Participate in seasonal events, family events, field trips, and special programming.
- Assist during emergency drills and follow all emergency procedures.
Communication & Teamwork
- Work cooperatively with the Program Director and fellow staff members.
- Establish positive relationships with families and provide excellent customer service.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding routine daily information while referring concerns to the Program Director when appropriate.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and employees.
Licensing & Safety
- Follow all Nebraska Child Care Licensing regulations and Foundation policies.
- Ensure children's safety through active supervision and sound judgment.
- Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, or suspected abuse immediately according to program procedures.
- Complete required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification and other required trainings.
Qualifications
Required
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to pass all required background checks if applicable based on age and licensing requirements.
- Ability to complete all required state trainings.
- Ability to work cooperatively with children, families, and coworkers.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Preferred
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Recreation, or a related field.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
