Notice Paralegal
Role Overview
The Notice Paralegal works closely with the firm’s Notice Auditor to ensure all pre-suit notices are accurately prepared, compliant with statutory requirements, and timely filed. This role is critical in supporting claim preservation and mitigating risk by tracking and managing notice-related deadlines and requirements throughout the lifecycle of each case.
Key Responsibilities
- Review intake notes, police reports, and case materials to determine whether a pre-suit notice may be required
- Conduct roadway jurisdiction research using MDOT, SEMCOG, and other applicable resources
- Verify statutory deadlines and monitor notice-service timelines
- Review draft notices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal requirements
- Confirm proper governmental entities and individuals are identified for service
- Assist in preparing Court of Claims-ready notices, including exhibit review, redactions, and formatting requirements
- Monitor file management systems and internal tracking tools to ensure deadlines are met
- Maintain and update notice tracking spreadsheets; cross-check data across systems, emails, and case activity
- Proactively follow up with staff regarding approaching deadlines, missing drafts, outstanding signatures, or unresolved notice issues
- Maintain organized, clearly labeled records within the firm’s file management system to support efficient auditing and review

Additional Exposure & Collaboration
This role provides exposure to appellate and procedural practice, particularly in areas impacting litigation strategy and claim preservation.
The Notice of Intent (NOI) process is highly collaborative, requiring close coordination with attorneys, paralegals, case managers, intake staff, and support personnel across all stages of notice-sensitive cases.
