Brooklyn Doodles is an arts-based progressive preschool located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Our vibrant community embraces each child's unique abilities and potential. Our program is rich in art immersion, offering a full range of hands-on experiences that engage children in deep and meaningful play. We strive to create an environment where children can explore and investigate their curiosities, are given numerous opportunities to think critically, work collaboratively with their peers, and develop empathy for each member of their community.
We are looking for a creative, collaborative, motivated person to fill the full-time Assistant Teacher position for our preschool for the 2026-2027 school year, with the possibility of continuing. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Lead Teachers to bring to fruition the school's mission.
The Assistant Teacher Responsibilities Include:
Curriculum and Collaboration
- Implementing curriculum alongside Lead Teachers
- Assisting the Lead Teachers in implementing principles of equity and social justice into the everyday experiences of the children
- Performing and analyzing ongoing developmental assessments.
Classroom Management
- Assisting the Lead Teacher in creating a thoughtful classroom environment that inspires play and curiosity and fosters the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of the children
- Observing and documenting classroom interactions through individual and whole group assessments, photographs, dictation, etc.
- Collaborating with the teaching team to maintain the everyday function of the classroom.
Qualification requirements
- An Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, or Special Education
- At least 2 years of experience working with children
- Familiarity with a variety of early childhood educational approaches (Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf, project-based learning, child-led inquiry, the importance of play, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as proven problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- The ability to multitask and adhere to timelines
Full Time position, 40 hours a week
Salary $25 an hour
Pay: $25.00 per hour
