Lotta’s Laundry | Laundry Washer & Dryer | Independent Contractor (1099)
Someone has to keep the pink bags moving.
Is this you?
You already do this. The folding, the sorting, making sure everything has a place — you do it for your own house, for free. We’ll pay you real money to do the same thing for Bainbridge Island customers who can’t keep up with it themselves. Our washers take home $200–600 a week, plus tips.
No boss standing over you, no corporate schedule — you build your hours around Monday, Wednesday, and Friday pickups. And you’d be driving around repping a brand people here already know and genuinely love (30 five-star reviews and counting).
Good fit for stay-at-home parents, retirees, working professionals looking for second income without having to travel to work. This is for anyone who wants real income that works around their life instead of taking it over.
About Lotta’s Laundry
Lotta's started on Bainbridge Island because nobody actually likes doing laundry, and most of the services that try to help with it still feel like a company — not something you'd tell your neighbor about. So that's what we focused on: being something people actually want to use, not just tolerate. People trust us with their actual laundry, week after week, and that trust is the whole reason we’ve grown into a five-star, word-of-mouth business. Most of our new customers still come from someone telling a friend, not from an ad we ran.
None of that happens without whoever’s actually doing the pickup, the fold, and the drop-off. For a lot of our customers, you’re the only part of Lotta’s they ever see in person, which means the experience you give them is the experience of the brand.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Customers hand us their actual laundry — personal detergent preferences, delicate items, sometimes a newborn’s bedding or someone’s one good set of sheets. That trust is the whole business. You’re the one keeping that promise, order after order, which means remembering that a customer likes things folded a certain way or returned on hangers without needing to be told twice. Consistency is what’s earned us this trust, and it’s what keeps customers coming back. We need people who take that as seriously as we do.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’re the whole experience for our customers, start to finish:
- Pick up and drop off laundry using your own car, on a custom route assigned the morning of
- Wash, dry, and fold at verified home setup or one of our partner laundromats, following Lotta’s standards (we’ll train you — no guessing).
- Spot-treat stains, keep orders separated, and pack everything back up neatly.
- Return completed orders within 48 hours.
- Keep us in the loop in Slack if anything comes up.
It’s hands-on, repetitive-in-a-satisfying-way work. If you like the feeling of a perfectly folded stack of towels, you’ll get that a few times a week.
Who thrives in this role
You notice things other people don’t — a stain on a shirt, wrinkle in the sheets, a stray cat hair on a shirt, a car that could use a wipe-down before the next stop. When you say something will be done by Thursday, it’s done by Thursday, no reminder required. The $200–600 a week works because it fits into the actual gaps in your life — school pickup, a free afternoon, a Saturday morning — instead of taking over your calendar. And when Slack pings, you see it, and nobody’s chasing you down.
What we provide
- Kickoff kit: detergents, stain remover, gloves, sanitizer, lint rollers, laundry bags folding board, delicate bags, branded shirt.
- Ongoing supplies: we keep you stocked, always. Nothing comes out of your pocket, and delivered right to your door.
- Training: written standards and short how-to videos, so you always know what “done right” looks like.
- Clear, fast pay: per-pound folding + flat delivery pay, weekly direct deposit.
- Perks: unlimited monthly car wash pass (after 30 days)
What you’ll need
- A reliable washer & dryer in good working order. (front-loader preferred)
- A clean, flat folding surface (table or counter ONLY).
- A reliable car, valid license, and proof of insurance.
- Ability to lift 20–30 lb bags.
- A clean envionment/home without heavy pet shedding or strong cooking smells (like lots of frying) — laundry soaks up odors easily, so this one matters more than it sounds.
Schedule & pay
Pickups and deliveries run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 AM–3 PM — you tell us your availability, we build the route around it. Routes MUST be completed and weights submitted by 3PM. Folding happens on your own time, as long as orders go back within 48 hours. We ask for a minimum of 12 hours/week to keep routes running smoothly.
If you’re on the schedule, you’re guaranteed at least 2 orders that day. Depending on the household, 2 orders can easily be a full day’s worth of laundry, this isn’t a token minimum. We also try to keep you with the same customers week to week instead of shuffling your route around, so you actually get to know their preferences (and they get to know you) rather than starting from scratch every time. This also helps with route density, assuring you’re on the road for as little amount of time as possible.
The actual rate: $10 flat per order + $3 per bag for pickup & delivery, plus $1.00 per pound folded. That bumps to $4 per bag and $1.15/lb after 90 days with no customer complaints.
Here’s an example of what pay looks like by order size:
OREDER SIZE EXAMPLE — 3 Bags, 35lbs
Pickup (flat) — $10
Bag fee (variable) — $9
Folding (avg) — $35
Order Total — $54
Run a mix of those across a week and you’re typically looking at $200–600, before tips, depending on how many orders and how full your route is. Rates bump to $4/bag and $1.15/lb after 90 days with no customer complaints.
Specialty items — comforters, blankets, rugs, pet beds, and similar — pay a fixed add-on fee per item instead of by the pound, roughly $3–$20 depending on the item. That's extra on top of a normal order, not a swap for the folding rate, so a bulkier order is straightforwardly better-paying.
