Job Summary:
The Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and reverent appearance of all parish buildings and grounds. The person in this position would identify, monitor and oversee the correction of problems in every phase of general maintenance including areas of carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, mechanic, janitorial, painting, and general repairs. The position reports to the Pastor and Parish Business Administrator and operates with some latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. John Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. John Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:

Mow lawns, trim hedges, edge sidewalks, and maintain landscaping.

Prune or trim trees, shrubs or hedges using appropriate tools and equipment.

Plant care and weed removal

Conduct routine inspections of buildings and grounds.

Pest Control

Perform minor repairs (basic plumbing or carpentry fixes)

Replace light bulbs, filters, and empty and clean wastebaskets as needed.

Use and maintain assigned power equipment.

Be available for Office personnel as needed; including transporting church supplies when purchased.

Inventory janitorial supplies

Open/Close parish buildings as needed.

Report major repairs.

Coordinate and oversee contractors for repairs on the parish grounds.

Collaborate with volunteers to complete parish projects.

Assist with setup of all Church facilities for meetings, gatherings and other events including moving furniture, equipment and tools as needed.

Work with volunteers to maintain prayer gardens and other devotional spaces.

Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Skill in plumbing, electricity and carpentry. • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity. • Ability to organize, prioritize and utilize effective time management techniques. • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines. • Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings: • High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency. Experience: • Must have at least one year of relevant experience. Language: • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing) Catholic Requirement: • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing. Licenses/Certifications: • Valid Texas driver’s license. • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions:
- All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
- The Parish is an at-will employer.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
- Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
- Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
