Position Overview
Shure Star, LLC is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer to execute design projects and ensure drawing accuracy for custom, engineer-to-order industrial door systems. Working independently on assigned projects, you will create detailed 3D models, generate accurate fabrication drawing packages, and collaborate directly with the engineering manager and shop floor teams to bring custom mechanical builds from concept to installation.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & 3D Modeling
- Develop, refine, and update complex 3D assemblies and piece-part models in SolidWorks.
- Conduct motion studies, interference checks, and structural fit evaluations for custom door mechanisms.
- Create and manage accurate, structured Bills of Materials (BOMs) within SolidWorks to support procurement and production schedules.
Drawing Execution & Technical Review
- Generate detailed fabrication, weldment, and assembly drawings.
- Perform self-checks and peer reviews on engineering packages prior to shop floor release to ensure drawing accuracy, catch fit-up errors, incorrect callouts, or missing details.
Project Execution & Lifecycle Support
- Carry assigned custom design projects through the engineering process.
- Update design documentation and create accurate as-built drawings following fabrication and installation feedback.
Fabrication & Shop Floor Integration
- Ensure all designs reflect practical shop capabilities, standard structural steel profiles, and field installation constraints.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3–6 years of mechanical design experience in heavy fabrication, custom machinery, structural steel, or engineer-to-order (ETO) environments.
- Software Mastery: Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, drawing generation, and configuration modeling).
- Technical Knowledge: SOLID understanding of structural steel shapes, welding callouts, fabrication techniques, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Problem-Solving: Hands-on mindset with a proven ability to step onto the shop floor, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and refine designs for manufacturability.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET), or equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $85,000 – $100,000 annually, commensurate with capability and experience.
