Index Packaging is seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic to join our Maintenance team in Milton, NH. This is a full-time, hourly position responsible for helping keep our fleet of tractors, trailers, and other diesel-powered equipment maintained, repaired, and on the road.
We're looking for an experienced diesel mechanic who can independently diagnose and complete repairs, perform preventative maintenance, inspect tractors and trailers, and help oversee the day-to-day maintenance needs of our truck shop.
What You'll Do:
- Perform maintenance and repairs on tractors and trailers
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel-powered vehicles
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on tractor-trailers
- Inspect tractors and trailers in accordance with New Hampshire requirements
- Prioritize repairs to help maximize fleet availability and keep trucks on the road
- Perform repairs and maintenance on other diesel-powered equipment used by Index Packaging
- Communicate directly with truck drivers regarding maintenance and repair needs
- Order parts needed for repairs
- Maintain appropriate inventory of commonly used parts
- Safely and effectively operate tools and equipment used for diesel repair
- Work collaboratively as part of the Maintenance team
- Follow assigned maintenance schedules and priorities
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience repairing tractor-trailers
- Strong knowledge of tractor and trailer repair and preventative maintenance
- Ability to diagnose and complete common tractor-trailer repairs independently
- Knowledge of New Hampshire tractor-trailer inspection requirements
- Experience working safely with diesel repair tools and equipment
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Personal toolbox
- Ability to work effectively with drivers and other members of the Maintenance team
- Experience maintaining or repairing other diesel-powered equipment, including loaders, skid steers, forklifts, and plow equipment, is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to routinely lift up to 70 pounds
- Ability to participate in team lifting when heavier or awkward items require additional assistance
- Ability to perform the physical duties associated with diesel and heavy-equipment maintenance
