Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Support Specialist to join our growing behavioral health team. In this role, you will provide encouragement, mentorship, and recovery-focused support to individuals navigating mental health and behavioral health challenges. Using lived experience and professional peer support practices, you will help clients build confidence, develop coping skills, and connect with resources that support long-term recovery and wellness.

Duties
- Provide peer-based emotional support and recovery-focused mentorship to clients
- Encourage client engagement in treatment, wellness planning, and community services
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies, self-advocacy skills, and personal recovery goals
- Facilitate peer support groups and recovery-oriented activities in a professional setting
- Connect clients with community resources, support programs, and social services
- Promote resilience, empowerment, and independence through supportive relationships
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times
- Collaborate with clinical and case management teams to support client success
- Support clients in building daily living skills, healthy routines, and social connections
- Assist with crisis support and de-escalation when appropriate
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must possess lived experience with mental health, substance use recovery, or experience supporting a family member in recovery
- Previous experience in behavioral health, peer support, healthcare, or social services preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical boundaries at all times
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented care, community resources, and support services preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situations
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic documentation accurately
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Must pass background check and any required screenings in accordance with state regulations
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance required
- Must have an active fingerprint clearance card
